Bob Cacchione, founder of the Intercollegiate Horse Association (IHSA),  envisioned the classification of The Cacchione Cup to welcome the top rider in both open fences and open equitation on the flat finishing first in both divisions  as the top seat of their region.  This is an honor bestowed to the rider sending them directly to Nationals. This is the highest level attainable in the IHSA competition qualifying for Nationals.  The rider must finish first in both divisions of jumping and equitation for the entire year and region (which includes 15 other colleges and universities).    The Cacchione Cup is awarded to the National Individual Hunt Seat high point rider.  We are proud to announce that Courtney Poist finished in that top position for our
Region.  This is the first time in the history of The University of Alabama to have a rider qualify for this prestigious honor.   She will represent The University of Alabama in The Cacchione Cup in Lexington, Kentucky, May 3, 2017.
